Terms of Service

By accessing or using PrivateToolbox, you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the service. PrivateToolbox provides browser-based utilities for tasks such as file metadata cleaning, password generation, text measurement, Base64 conversion, JSON formatting, QR generation, regular expression testing, caption formatting, and citation drafting. The tools are offered without an account and are designed to process working content locally where described.

The service is free and provided “as is” and “as available.” Features, formats, limits, wording, and availability may change as browsers, dependencies, platform rules, and security practices evolve. We may correct, suspend, replace, or retire a tool without guaranteeing continuous access. These terms do not create a professional, fiduciary, educational, legal, or confidential-client relationship.

You may use PrivateToolbox for lawful personal, educational, creative, and professional purposes. You must not use the service to violate law, infringe intellectual property or privacy rights, distribute malware, facilitate unauthorized access, create deceptive QR destinations, process material you have no right to handle, or harass or harm another person. Do not attempt to disable safeguards, overwhelm the site with automated traffic, probe infrastructure without written authorization, interfere with other visitors, or misrepresent PrivateToolbox output as a certification.

Automated use that creates excessive requests, copies substantial site content, bypasses advertising controls, or degrades availability is prohibited. Local processing does not authorize possession or manipulation of unlawful material. We may restrict access or take reasonable protective action when activity threatens the service, providers, users, or third parties.

You are responsible for selecting appropriate inputs, keeping lawful copies, verifying outputs, and deciding whether a tool is suitable for your situation. Retain an original before changing a file. Confirm downloads open correctly. Review generated passwords before relying on a destination’s acceptance rules, save them in a trusted manager, and never assume the site can recover them. Treat Base64 as encoding rather than encryption. Test QR codes in their final placement. Compare citations with institutional guidance, and validate technical output against the system that will consume it.

You are also responsible for your device, browser, extensions, network, clipboard, downloaded files, and access credentials. Client-side processing reduces server transfer but cannot protect a compromised device or undo disclosure after you paste or publish a result elsewhere. Follow workplace, school, contractual, regulatory, and professional requirements that apply to your data. Do not submit confidential files through support email; provide a non-sensitive description or reduced example instead.

File formats and browser implementations vary. Damaged, encrypted, unusually structured, extremely large, or unsupported files may fail or produce unexpected results. Metadata cleaning does not equal legal redaction and cannot guarantee removal of every possible hidden structure. Text counters may differ from another platform’s rules. Regular expressions that work on sample text may perform poorly or mishandle international data. Formatting valid JSON does not establish that its values meet an API schema. Social platform limits may change, and generated citations may not cover uncommon contributors or source types.

Always inspect important results. PrivateToolbox does not warrant accuracy, completeness, fitness for a particular purpose, uninterrupted availability, or compatibility with every browser, file, institution, platform, or downstream application. No guidance on the site replaces advice from a qualified security, legal, academic, accessibility, compliance, or records-management professional.

PrivateToolbox and its original interface, branding, writing, and software are protected by applicable intellectual property laws. These terms grant you a limited, non-exclusive, revocable right to use the public tools through the website for their intended purpose. They do not transfer ownership of the service or permit copying, reselling, framing, reverse engineering beyond rights that cannot legally be restricted, or presenting the service as your own.

You retain the rights you already hold in the files, text, and other material you process. Because tool inputs are not uploaded to PrivateToolbox for processing, you do not grant us a content license merely by using a local tool. You remain responsible for ensuring that your handling and output do not infringe someone else’s copyright, trademark, privacy, confidentiality, database, or contractual rights.

The site may display advertising or link to third-party websites. PrivateToolbox does not control the content, security, products, representations, availability, or data practices of those destinations. An advertisement is not an endorsement. Review the destination, price, terms, and privacy notice before sharing information or completing a transaction. Advertising technologies may operate under separate disclosures in our Privacy Policy.

Open-source libraries and browser features help provide certain functions and may have their own license notices. A change in a browser or dependency can affect behavior. We may update implementation details to maintain safety and compatibility without notice.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, PrivateToolbox and its operators will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for loss of data, files, revenue, opportunity, reputation, or business arising from use of or inability to use the service. This Liability Limitation applies to client-side tools as well as site availability, even if the possibility of loss was known. Your primary remedies are to stop using the service, retain originals, and use an alternative appropriate to your requirements.

Where liability cannot legally be excluded, it is limited to the minimum permitted by applicable law. Nothing in these terms excludes rights, remedies, or liabilities that cannot legally be waived, including applicable consumer protections. Because the service is free, some jurisdictions may apply mandatory rules that differ from these terms.

We may update these terms to reflect new tools, risks, providers, laws, or operating practices. Revised terms take effect when posted with an updated effective date, unless law requires another process. Continued use after an update means acceptance of the revised terms. We may suspend access to protect the service or respond to misuse.

If any provision is unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue to apply. A failure to enforce one term is not a waiver of future enforcement. Questions may be sent to hello@privatetoolbox.net.
